2013 NCAA Event Finals

Following Michigan’s NCAA Title last night, the program’s fifth all-time, and Sam Mikulak’s and Adrian de los Angeles’ 1-2 finish in the all-around, your Wolverines have qualified seven gymnasts into Event Finals today, for a total of fourteen routines.*

Dylan James will be the first Wolverine up this afternoon, starting in the third slot on pommel horse. Then Rohan Sebastian, Sam Mikulak, Adrian de Los Angeles and Syque Caesar compete 4th-7th on floor. Jordan Gaarenstroom is the lone Wolverine in Rings Finals and he will be up eighth. Mikulak closes out the first three event going last on pommel horse.

On the second three events, Ervin leads off the vault Event Finals competition, and Caesar is up first on high bar. Mikulak is in the third slot on vault, and de Los Angeles is third on parallel bars. Caesar and Mikulak are then fifth and sixth up on parallel bars, and then Mikulak has a small break until he closes out the competition for Michigan going ninth on high bar, looking to defend his 2012 NCAA High Bar title.

Your Wolverines have the ability to match or surpass Michigan’s record of fourteen All-Americans, set by the 2010 National Championship team. An All-American citation is garnered by a top-eight finish, and like the 2010 Team, Michigan already has two from the All-Around competition yesterday evening (in 2010 Chris Cameron and Mel Santander finished first and third in the all-around, respectively).

*NB Michigan in fact qualified fifteen total routines, but Mikulak chose to forego his spot on rings in the interest of maintaining health; he’ll still be quite busy with five other routines today.
